In 1996 London, Ontario band Spool were able to record two tracks in a session at Toronto's infamous Manta Eastern Sound Studio. Recorded live off the floor in one of the large rooms (where many Canadian juggernauts like Rush made records) , the band stuck to its intimate, direct style. “Bees In The Ginger Ale” shows Spool’s love of crooked melodies, delivered unpredictably. In this case polyrythmically where everything counts three, except for the drums. This previously unreleased two song gem of a single is receiving a long awaited digital release by Toronto indie label (weewerk).

Spool
Bees in the Ginger Ale
With the back of his hand, swatting at the bees,
They were trying to wake him,
He was trying to sleep,
Said 'get out of that well of wishes,
it's always empty, keeps you thirsty'
You've been kicking at that brick,
it's so simle so thick,
Forever here to stay,
You chose and you got it this way,
The lines are getting kind of thin,
Something's got to give in
Putty faced man standing on your lawn,
Got your green coke-bottle glasses on,
Same and same and again,
Screaming and dreaming,
"Christ keep me normal! Keep the world out of my yard!
I'm feeling kind of pale, bees in my Ginger Ale."
With the back of his hand, swatting at the bees,
They were trying to wake him,
He was trying to sleep,
You've been kicking at that wall,
it's so simple it's so small,
Forever here to stay,
You chose and you got it this way,
The lines are getting kind of thin,
Something's got to give in

Spool formed in London Ontario in 1992.
They were known for their colourful, noisy sound, that would push and pull,
feeling like it might implode, then regaining cohesion in a whirlwind of sound and playful hooks.
They had a few line up changes and this single represents the final up of Ian Newton, Greg Newton, Joel Pylyshyn and Clayton Corneil....more
